Basics of Weight Loss

The Secret to Weight Loss

When it comes right down to it, losing weight is not rocket science. Put fewer calories in your body than it needs to maintain your current weight and you will lose fat. Put more calories in your body than it needs and you will gain weight. There you have it. Now you know the secret to losing weight.

There are, of course, exceptions. It's true that some people have physical abnormalities that cause their bodies to defy the above statement. This information does not apply to those individuals since they require medical treatment for their weight control

The Problem

As we know, it's not so easy to consume fewer calories than we have become accustomed to. It is very difficult to change a lifetime of eating habits. We are faced with overcoming a double whammy. First, there is the physical hunger to overcome. Then we must fight the mental state that defines our attitude toward food.

Solutions

There are hundreds of Diet Plans, Weight Loss Supplements, Patches and Weight Loss Pills that can help control the appetite or prevent the body from digesting calories consumed. The solution is to find the one that works for you.

It is very difficult, however, to lose weight and keep it off with Diet Plans, Patches and Weight Loss Pills alone. These aids must be accompanied by increased physical activity (exercise) and a new attitude toward food.

Why Your Body Resist Losing Weight

Your body has a built-in defense mechanism designed to keep you alive. When you reduce your food intake in a significant manner and in a short timeframe, you body begins to panic. It senses that you are starving and fights back.

It does this by holding onto all the body fat that it can. It will actually burn muscle before it will use fat. This is because stored body fat is the body's energy reserve.

Therefore, as a general rule, you should not attempt to lose more than 1 to 2 pounds a week.

Summary

To lose weight, you need:

  • A plan
  • A goal
  • A weight loss aid that works for you
  • An exercise program
  • An adjusted attitude toward food
